I'd like to observe National Hispanic Heritage Month. What are some ways to celebrate my culture with my family?

From food festivals to music performances and art exhibits, you'll surely find an array of family-friendly activities to help you honor your roots.

For starters, check to see if your city will be hosting some kind of celebratory event during this month-long celebration, which runs from September 15 to October 15. Look online or call your local Latino association, museum or Mexican consulate to see what they're doing. Check with your local library for events that are geared toward children.

A family tree is a great project to start this month. You and your children will discover interesting information about your heritage, and hopefully get a history lesson along the way. One way to get started is by finding out how your family came to the United States. You can also help your children gather photos, stories and even family recipes that are relevant to your family's history.

Finally, you can always celebrate your heritage by hosting a fiesta and including some favorite family dishes and some awesome Latin music!
